North Long Beach anticrime effort faces mixed results
The Concerned Citizens group in North Long Beach targets sex theaters on Atlantic Avenue with picketing and police help to curb crime. While one theater closed for licensing issues and patronage drops during protests, other initiatives like block parties and radios stalled, and Eleanor Lane evidence shows limited community impact. College Square Association reports burglaries down and active neighbor networks, alert systems, and committees improving safety, but overall efforts remain uneven and evolving.

Long Beach Youth Division Faces Merger Standoff
The Long Beach Commission on Youth voted 9-3 against merging the Division of Youth Affairs into the Human Resources Department. They urged the chairwoman to present the resolution to the City Council, arguing the division coordinates youth services and supports the youth commission, while critics warn of reduced staff and fragmented services under a broader department.
