Moon Orbit to Precede Landing Plan For Apollo Missions
CAPE KENNEDY The U S space agency outlines a five step plan starting with three manned Earth orbit flights before any lunar landing. Apollo 7 will launch Walter Schitt a Donn Eisele and Walter Cunningham in September to ten days in Earth orbit. Follow on missions include James McDivitt David Scott and Russell Schweickart in a lunar orbit atop Saturn V for about ten days in November. Subsequent crews Bor ton Collins and Anders will revisit moon mission operations in a 4600 mile high Earth orbit next year aboard a Saturn V before a three man crew enters lunar orbit without landing. Pending no issues the final step is a landing mission. Dr George Mueller notes mission types can be redone if needed and some objectives can be attempted later.
