Walston, a well known broker, died by a firearm at his office after expressing despair. His chauffeur recounted a day of conversations about death and found the body beside a shotgun with two spent shells. Police, joined by patrolmen, discovered additional hunting rifles in the office.
In Downey a 22 year old San Francisco man Ralph Terry Donahue seized Rose Ann Lewis's daughter at knife point in her home during an art display. After a three hour hostage negotiation deputies provided a gun loaded with an empty cartridge to induce freedom. Donahue released Rose Anne and was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Rose Ann was checked at Fairmont Hospital with no injuries reported.
