Senate panel tightens grip on defense programs
Washington reports that the Senate Armed Services Committee approved sweeping changes to the defense bill to give Congress tighter oversight of aircraft and missile programs. It urged Defense Secretary McElroy to present a master plan for air defense and enacted measures to require annual authorization for aircraft and missile plans, while trimming authorizations for Nike Hercules projects and withdrawing prior authority for 50 batteries at multiple sites.
