Fong Attacks Pay Toilets and Expensive Meats
Oakland Democrat Mrs. March Fong led a news conference criticizing $2.64 a pound lunch meats and two ply tires that allegedly blow out after 2 000 miles. She urged creation of a consumer advocate office to replace the current consumer counsel and argued the present office acts as a public relations arm, not serving the people or Legislature. She displayed meat prices and demonstrated tire durability with a 105 pound frame to contrast two ply and four ply tires.
