Tidelands Bill Nears Floor Vote Amid Revisions
The latest compromise version of the tidelands bill garners support from critics like Sen. Virgil O’Sullivan while committee chair Luther Gibson notes nine meetings shaped its final form. Amendments boost local school district aid, fund marinas, and strengthen state control, with Alamitos Park oil offered as a separate bid parcel but potentially unitized later. A boundary settlement between tidelands and city uplands remains in the measure.

Royal Falras club burned to rubble in seafront blaze
A historic club in San Pedro, recently a state park site, was destroyed by a high flames fire that reached 200 feet and imperiled cliff homes. Firefighters fought the two hour blaze, drawing sea water from waist deep surf as no hydrants existed on the property. The rambling clubhouse, its arbanas and palm trees were charred ruins by 12 32 am. The building, opened in the early twenties, housed moviemakers and later served social clubs as a meeting hall and ballroom.
