Wide Area Receives Heavy Rains and High Winds
A major storm drenched a wide swath from southern Texas to southeastern Missouri with heavy rain and strong winds. San Antonio and Austin saw nearly an inch and three quarters respectively, while Little Rock logged forty five hundredths. Tornado watches were issued for parts of Texas Tennessee Alabama Kentucky and Mississippi as a funnel cloud was sighted near Memphis. Frost and freezing temperatures were forecast for the central and northern plains.

Two Local Teens Suffer Severe Injuries In Separate Incidents
A 13 year old Norwalk boy, Frank Torrez of Crossdale Avenue, was found in an alley with multiple stab wounds and is in critical condition at Studebaker Hospital after neighbors discovered him near Belcher Street. In a separate incident, 13 year old William LaPointe of Dunning Street Santa Fe Springs lost his left foot after slipping under a moving freight train on the Norwalk spur behind Cresson Street.

SAN QUENTIN UPI A special Mothers Day breakfast is to be held at San Quentin Prison. About 160 mothers will attend church services with their imprisoned sons, followed by a breakfast added this year at prisoners requests. Mothers will wear flower corsages from the prison greenhouse. Menu includes juice eggs bacon potatoes toast and coffee.
