Nixon civil rights policy attacked by six Justice aides
Six young lawyers from the Civil Rights Division quit the Justice Department in protest of President Nixon's civil rights policies. They urged volunteers for Senator George McGovern's presidential bid, accusing the administration of retreating from racial equality, and criticized busing and Voting Rights Act amendments. The group urged public challenge at the polls while noting record increases in civil rights litigation under Nixon.

Michigan appeals Detroit school integration ruling
The state of Michigan appeals to the Supreme Court to block federal Judge Stephen J. Roth from ordering an area wide integration of Detroit's largely black city schools with white suburban schools. Michigan Attorney General Frank J. Kelley says Roth's ruling could force up to a million children in 86 districts onto buses next September, and contends officials fostered segregation.
