Teens Hike 15 Miles for Charity in Long Beach
A large group of Southland teens from 15 to 18 completed a 15 mile walk from South Gate Park to First Lutheran Church in Long Beach to raise money for self help projects in India Latin America and Africa. About 738 signed up unofficially with 500 carrying sponsor forms. Sponsorship ranged from a cent to 1 dollar per mile averaging 25 to 50 cents. Funds will be pooled and sent to three projects poultry hatcheries a youth program and a garden project. The hikers arrived earlier than expected and no casualties were reported.
