Lockheed Charged With Inflating Air Force Costs
The General Accounting Office said Lockheed Aircraft Corp submitted airplane cost figures to the Air Force that were 4.11 million dollars too high. It estimated an extra profit of 1.25 million if auditors had not uncovered the overcharges. Rep Edward Hebert called the case startling and noted the contractor knew of the overcharges during negotiations but did not reveal them. Lockheed President Courtlandt S. Gross said a reaudit supports overall accuracy and the firm will recheck similar contracts and offer to repay any amounts due.
