California State Palos Verdes unveils a multimillion dollar master plan aimed at 16 000 students by 1985. The Rolling Hills Estates site features a keynote five story administration building and 1.73 million square feet of facilities centered on a library and student union. Four clusters will host humanities arts social sciences natural sciences and a college within a college for 500 students. An unusual togetherness design enables cross field mingling inside and outside buildings.
The Sonoma report outlines a 200 acre campus plan with 56 acres for buildings 65 acres for parking and 31 acres for housing. Parking will be on lower hills to preserve views with initial 300 spaces eventually expanding to 8000. The plan, presented by dean Harry Neathery, awaits State Board of Public Works negotiations on land and awaits next summer’s cost estimates for trustees approval.
