California biologist Hans Elias unveiled a radical cancer concept at a Detroit symposium. He disputes standard mitosis as the sole growth mechanism, suggesting cancer cells can generate many daughter cells and transfer genetic material to normal cells. Elias cites colon cancer studies and electron microscopy images showing nucleus arms with DNA, positing up to 400 appendages per cell. He notes a sperm-like element might impregnate adjacent cells, challenging the unicellular origin view. The work is speculative, aided by limited technology, with NIH support for UC San Francisco lab research.
