Foes Align Against Rafferty in State Superinten dence Race
In Sacramento two of three major candidates oppose Rafferty’s rhetoric and seek the job of state superintendent of public instruction. Incumbent Max Rafferty leads the field, with Julian Nava from Los Angeles City Board of Education and Wilson Riles, Raferty staff deputy, as other contenders. The race centers on Raferty’s tenure since 1962 and policy direction for California schools.
