Court Denies Berrigan Access to Wiretap Files
Federal Judge in Harrisburg ruled defense access to secret government wiretap files limited to prison contraband cases. The court allowed questioning of Philadelphia FBI agents next May but blocked viewing the one admitted tap used in the Harrisburg Seven case. The jailed Rev. Philp Berrigan and Sister Elizabeth McAlister had claimed illegal warrants and evidence. Mason Smith testified the tap ran from Nov 24, 1970, to Jan 2, 1971, without revealing the subscriber’s home.
