Seites said the plane ran out of gas near shore and sank within five minutes after a final landing on the water. He noted no life jackets were aboard and all escaped onto the wings before sinking.
Councilman Charles R. Dooley criticized the city system for cleaning vacant lots and the accompanying charges after eight property owners protested assessments. He urged elimination of the program, but received no second for his motion. The council also rejected a proposal to raise charges by adding overhead costs. Seven of eight protests were dismissed, with Mrs. Denlinger the exception for a burning lot after cleanup. City official Lanier noted 2,800 lots cleaned last year for $21,000 in assessments, citing weed removal after burning bans as a factor.
