Nets Still Using 1940 Data in Broadcast Ratings
Washington report notes Nielsen uses 1940 census based sample since 1947 while incorporating newer data for updates. Warren Cordell says 1960 census data being integrated but not yet in use and that obsolete data may affect advertising decisions. Calls grow for FCC or NAB action and for government recognition of ratings firms to ease access to households.

McNamara Crying Incident Report Denied by Defense
McNamara cried on the witness stand during congressional testimony about the Fort Worth fighter project. A Senate source said he sobbed as he insisted his integrity had not been questioned. The Defense Department declined to comment on the tears while noting his testimony remained, as stated, without weeping. The subcommittee probes possible favoritism or political pressure in a $24 million initial contract, with a larger $6.5 billion project to follow.
