Two-Week Hunt Ends with Seven Year Old Missing Girl Found Slain
A nine year old girl named Candy was found slain after a two week search. Officers described the body as disarranged with signs of a struggle and stripped pine needles around her. Candy’s mother Elaine Rogers, a high school teacher, waited by the phone as the family faced a long and painful wait for answers. Candy’s father Carl Rogers had come to help but returned home as the investigation dragged on. Detectives believe mint boxes found near the killer’s old address were dropped to mislead investigators. The location of the body differed from earlier search areas seven miles away. Candy had collected funds by selling mint boxes for her Blue Bird camping group.
