Sacred Bali Volcano Erupts with Toll Fear
The Bali volcano Gunung Agung on Java rose in violent activity, about 70 miles northeast of Denpasar. Army roadblocks sealed major routes as lava and ash blanketed nearby villages. Dozens died and thousands of acres were buried under hardened lava with extensive property damage. Five tons of medical supplies arrived from East Java. Many tourists were stranded while Balinese officials warned of ongoing danger.
