Navy Bomber Sets Transcontinental Flight Records
Navy bomber pilots shattered times for round trip New York and back and for east to west routes at a Los Angeles International Airport event. A Sky Wave jet clocked 6 hours 47 minutes to break the prior record by nearly two hours, then shaved 9 minutes 25 seconds off the total. East to west attempts aimed to beat 3 hours 14 minutes 58 seconds, but headwinds shortened the effort. A wedding anniversary note mentioned Cmdr Dale W. Cox and his spouse from Spirit Lake Idaho amid the aviation feats.
