County workers face end to Good Friday time off
About 80,000 county employees will not receive three hours off on Good Friday unless the State Supreme Court stays a Court of Appeals ruling that the holiday is invalid for state and county workers. County Counsel John Larson told supervisors the time off is in bargaining agreements based on Government Code holidays, but with the code ruled unconstitutional, the county cannot continue paid time off. He urged department heads to grant time off on request for those observing religious obligations.
