Funds Delay US Jobless Pay In Long Beach Area
Unemployment checks for about 20 000 federal and veteran workers served by the Long Beach division of the Department of Employment were halted Monday due to a lack of federal funds. Toll, the local manager, said payments are held until Congress approves funds. The House has passed a 70 million measure, Senate action pending. Cards are issued to recipients listing their address and will be mailed when funds arrive, with payments expected to resume within days.
