Stevie Wonder transforms from prodigy to versatile craftsman
A Friday night Long Beach performance shows Stevie Wonder, once a child harmonica prodigy, now a mature musician embracing Moog synthesis and computer age sound. He leads Wonder Love with eight musicians and four vocalists, demonstrates piano and drum prowess, and writes most songs with Syreeta. The crowd perks up only sporadically amid a long Brazilian set and awkward festival seating.

Mozart arias best of season by Polly Baker with Long Beach Symphony
Soprano Polly Baker starred in Mozart arias with the Long Beach Symphony, delivering a rich voice, dramatic presence, and musical intelligence. Beethoven's Third opened the concert, Mendelssohn's Fingal's Cage preceded it, and Bolet led idiosyncratic accompaniment as the orchestra improves for next season. The El Camino College guitar series closed with Julian Bream praised for Bach and Byrd, with future Montoya appearances announced and subscription details.

Bolshoi Replaces Circus Horses With Race Horses
The Bolshoi Theater abandoned Moscow circus horses for operas after they began dancing to music. Police horses proved too shy for the stage, so the theater now uses race horses, according to Komsomolskaya Pravda cited by UPI.
