Satchmo in hospital with heart ailment in New York

Jazz great Louis Armstrong was reported resting comfortably at Beth Israel Hospital after a heart ailment. He was admitted Monday with irregularities earlier in the day stabilized, per his longtime physician Dr. Gary Zucker. Armstrong, 70, had completed a two week Waldorf engagement before admission. He has long suffered heart strain but no heart attack.

Midwest Storm Rages With High Winds and Blizzard

A late winter storm swept the Plains delivering hurricane strength winds up to 106 mph. Nebraska faced blizzard conditions marooning travelers and closing highways. South Dakota Kansas Minnesota and Illinois felt the chill as heavy snow threatened Wisconsin and Michigan. Farther south, destructive winds stirred dust storms while tornado warnings were issued in parts of the Southern Plains and western Gulf states.
