Signal Hill names Neff mayor and Randle vice mayor
Councilman J Ennis Neff elected mayor and Councilman Robert F Randle named vice mayor of Signal Hill for the coming year. The vote drew a protest from Councilman William F. Mendenhall who said only a loud No without explanation. City Clerk Merle Hunt oversaw the count as the council closed nominations after Nell was nominated. Neff will appoint a treasurer to fill the vacancy left by the death of Alfred Posner LaPorte, with Mrs. Laborté having recently remarried and resigning for personal reasons. The council also approved a plan to reduce minor public works costs by standardizing water pipe sizes for small projects, pending bid language refinements by City Attorney Kenneth Brown.
