Moretti accuses Reagan of lashing out over unpopularity

Sacramento Assembly Speaker Bob Moretti charged Gov. Reagan with lashing out as Democratic leaders in the Legislature face a dip in popularity. Budget cuts hit Ed Reinecke staff in California hearing

In Sacramento a Democratic budget subcommittee trimmed 3 percent from Lt. Gov. Ed Reinecke’s personal staff, reducing the unit to 11 members and shifting two satellite agencies. The move, tied to removing political staffers blamed for backing Reinecke’s 1974 gubernatorial bid, was approved as part of the preliminary budget review by Assembly Ways and Means. Brown, who leads the subcommittee, defended the cuts as relocating personnel to nonpolitical roles within the Little Hoover Commission.

State wage hikes gain approval in California subcommittee

A California Assembly Ways and Means subcommittee approved 213.5 million dollars in state employee pay raises. The package includes 7.5 percent for civil servants and 12.6 percent for state college and university faculty, higher than Gov Reagan proposed. Analyst Alan Post supported the plan, saying wages lag private industry and faculty need higher boosts to offset living costs.
