Remarriage Controversy Divides Episcopalians in Southland
Southern California Episcopalians push at the 1970 general convention to loosen remarriage rules, seeking to treat the intention of a second marriage as primary and move away from the annulment concept. The Southland diocese urges a redemptive, pastorally oriented canon change amid divorce rates high in California. The debate also touches on abortion discussions with Protestant and Catholic theologians in a CBS World of Religion segment.
