Oil Slick Reaches Breton Island Coast in Louisiana

Historic East West German summit to be held in Befurl

Chancellor Willy Brandt of West Germany and East German leader Willi Soph will meet in Befurl, East Germany, next Thursday. It would be the first chiefs of government meeting since Germany was divided after World War II.

Nation at Revolutionaries Bomb New York Skyscrapers

A series of blasts damaged offices of three major New York City firms with no injuries reported. Two self described revolutionaries claimed credit as police logged 137 bomb scares in 16 hours. Elsewhere security tightened at the Justice Department after a telephone threat. no bomb found.

Nixon names Curtis Tarr to lead selective service system

President Nixon selected Curtis Tarr a 45 year old Pentagon official former university president and WW II draftee to head the Selective Service System Tarr who will replace Gen Lewis Mershey spoke of youth and the draft but avoided comment on a volunteer army Tarr formerly led Lawrence University Appleton and served as assistant Air Force secretary for manpower and reserve affairs in Stockton California he ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1958 and earned a Stanford doctorate while teaching humanities.
