Malcolm X Calls for Guns for Negroes in 1964
New York UPI reports Malcolm X, newly formed Black Nationalist leader, predicts 1964 will be the bloodiest year in civil rights. He urges America’s 22 million Negroes to learn to use shotguns and rifles and says it is legal to form rifle clubs and carry shotguns in most states. He resigns from the Black Muslim movement to lead a new group as Brother Malcolm, while criticizing sectarianism and vowing broad work among non-Muslim Negroes. He promises a social program teaching what real revolution means, including blood as part of change.
