Car repair costs rise on 1971 models in crashes
Senate testimony shows 1971 large and midsize cars cost more to repair after front end, rear end, or side impacts. Dr. William Haddon Jr of the Insurance Institute says cosmetic front and rear ends persist, despite safety efforts, with average repair bills up by about 116 dollars for front end and 111 for rear end collisions. He argues design flaws raise costs, not inflation, and that energy absorbing structures could avoid price increases.
