Senate hearing ends quack health swindles against seniors
Senate subcommittee wrapped up its inquiry into nutrition quackery and health scams preying on the elderly. Harvard professor Frederick Stare cited regulatory inaction and profit-driven schemes as slick, nationwide operations push useless cures and mail order miracle products. Henry B Montague warned that even potent devices and potions flood the market, while Irving Ladimer of the Better Business Bureau denounced aggressive tactics targeting seniors with testimonials and free booklets.

Hosmer urges law to curb disarmers in U S policy
Representative Craig Hosmer of Long Beach charged that amateur strategists in key posts push unilateral disarmament to set a noble example for Russia. He urged Congress to leash the disarmers and moved legislation to limit the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency to arms control, make it independent of the State Department, and require presidential consultation on any defense cuts or international treaties. He cited cuts to R 570, B 47 and other missiles and a broad downshift in nuclear material and carrier production.
