Study finds third of smokers die early in long British doctor survey
A 20 year study of over 34 000 British doctors shows between one half and one third of smokers die prematurely due to smoking. The researchers Doll and Pale report lung cancer deaths among physicians fell by more than half as smoking declined, while other diseases linked to smoking rose or persisted.

Women's lib fuels teen girls smoking rise says educator
Chicago Lung Association health educator Charlene Entman says women's liberation images have made smoking more acceptable to teenage girls. She notes smoking among 15 and 16 year olds rose from under 10 percent in 1968 to over 20 percent now, and urges positive non smoking messaging through teachers and films rather than scare tactics. Advertising is blamed for boosting appeal while adult smoking declines.
