Social Security setback handed to Women s Lib
Washington advocates for women's equality react to a 239 page Advisory Council on Social Security report. It notes gender based discrimination remains but most proposed corrections favor men and reject long standing women demands. The council, appointed by HEW, says paying homemakers via credits is infeasible and would alter the purpose of Social Security. It recommends extending some benefits to fathers and widowers and equalizing widows and exwives under certain conditions. Rita Ricardo Campbell of Stanford criticizes the lengthy remarks.
