Miners Die as Water Floods Coal Mine Tunnel
A 3 foot high wall of water engulfed the Porter Tunnel in Kocher's anthracite mine near Schuylkill County killing one miner and trapping at least nine others. About 100 workers were in the mine when the flood occurred at 12 40 p.m. Rescue teams searched debris as Leon Richter confirmed the dead man was Gary Klinger of Hegins.
