Four people were injured when two cars on the Wilde Maus miniature roller coaster collided about 25 feet above ground at Nu-Pike Amusement Park Sunday night. Authorities say a hat or hairpiece may have jammed a wheel as the car climbed an incline, causing a ram from a following car. National Guardsmen guarding Isla Vista near UCSB cotm Hall declined to less than half as sheriff deputies and police expanded presence after protests. Demonstrators warned of further trouble, recalling earlier clashes that included rioting, arson, and arrests, with dozens detained.
Five Americans aboard the 63-foot vessel Jo Lyn-Cail were seized Sunday by a Cuban patrol while off the coast near the Old Bahama Channel. Captain Sten Carlsan of New Bedford reportedly guided the craft with treasure-hunting gear as Cuban forces fired warnings.
