A large air search was launched after reports that the 10 man crew of a crippled Air Force bomber had bailed out into the North Atlantic. The Air Rescue Service ordered an inquiry as planes from the United States, Britain, Iceland, and Newfoundland began a search between Greenland and Iceland for supposed survivors. The operation continued as officials said the only ship involved was known.
