A 10 ton steam boiler servicing oil wells exploded at 32nd Street and California Avenue last night near Signal Hill, critically scalding boiler fireman FE. Burt Frenel, 50, of Redondo Beach. The blast hurled the boiler 200 yards into a field and sent steam rising for an hour, alarming thousands and stopping police lines. Don Randell, night supervisor, noted the cause would be determined after inspection today.
