Army radio nets, police aid reunite anxious wife

A Long Beach police unit, an Army radio operator in Japan, and a Lakewood ham relay brought delayed word to Mrs. Bowman that her husband Bob Bowman, wounded in Korea, was alive and recovering. The message, strained by atmospheric conditions, reached her after two weeks of fear and isolation. She thanked all who helped, planning a homecoming party.

Six Injured in Fog Accident Near Norwalk

In heavy fog near Rosecrans on Firestone Riverl in Norwalk six people were injured when a Pacific Electric Santa Ana Express bus crashed into two automobiles. Bus driver Cecil C. Coombs of Orange and fourteen passengers were among the injured, with two people hurt in each car. Deputies said the bus struck the first car in the rear, pushing it into the second, which left the highway.

Boy Chained To Backyard Post Is Freed

A year old boy was untied from a metal dog chain bound to a backyard post after deputies used a hacksaw to cut him loose. The mother, Marjorie, was ordered to appear at Norwalk sheriff's station to explain why the child was shackled. the boy, Eugene DeLeon, was taken to Juvenile Hall in Los Angeles.

Woman 55 Found Dead in Home

Shirley M. Brandly, 55, of 145 Glendora Aye, was found dead, apparently of natural causes, in her home yesterday. The body was taken to Coons Mortuary.

Weather Fog Persisted Across Southern California

The morning forecast warned of continued fog and dense smog over land sea and air travel in the region with fog lingering in Los Angeles and Long Beach areas. Tonight will bring increasing low cloudiness and winds with visibility improving later. Tomorrow should be cloudier and less foggy with unchanged high and low temperatures between 49 and 66 degrees.

Family of Five Die in Isolated Fire Near Jefferson City

A family of five perished when a fire destroyed their isolated frame home near Jefferson City Missouri. The victims were Alexander Erhart Jr aged 30 his wife Margaret 26 and their children Billy six months Kirsten 3 and Jeanette 6.

Billion Asked for A Bombs

President Truman plans an emergency request to Congress for about 1 billion dollars to expand atomic bomb production. Congressional sources said the message could come tomorrow and a special appropriations subcommittee meeting was convened in anticipation. The figure far exceeds prior speculation on the request.

Carpenters Look To AFL Over Pay Hike in SoCal

In Los Angeles on November 28 a 15 cent an hour wage boost for carpenters and 10 cents for ironworkers and other trades awaits approval by the AFL national headquarters ending a month long strike in Southern California counties. If approved by the international executive board union members may not vote. The terms take effect December 11 extending the contract to April 1952. Carpenters quit their jobs in Southern California on July 10.
