Season’s Biggest Rainfall Prompts Citywide Deluge

The Weather Bureau said more rain will fall today after a downpour drenched Long Beach and the Southland, swelling the season total to 10.78 inches. Traffic slowed to a crawl as rain caused multiple accidents, sending two people to Seaside Hospital with possible major injuries. Cab driver Barney Shapiro and passenger Cris Jacobs were hospitalized, following a three-car crash near Cedar and Seventh Streets that also involved William Mandel’s stalled vehicle. Five Quakes Blamed on No Calif Volcano

BERKELEY November 13 A series of five earthquakes in three hours near Lassen National Park Northern California were blamed on volcanic action by UC assistant seismologist Don Tocher. The main quake at 6 34 p m PST lasted four minutes preceded by a fore shock and followed by three after shocks. no damage reported in the remote area around Lassen Peak.

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 18. Stanley B. Gallat, known as a quiet well behaved man, refused to pay a restaurant bill and quarrelled with a waitress. He backed his truck into a questioned officer, led eight into a high speed chase, sideswiped vehicles, backed into a police cruiser, and fought with a dozen officers in his apartment bathroom, breaking noses of five officers and his own. Hospital attendants said he was very intoxicated.

Hiroshima officials say Eleanor Roosevelt plans to visit the atom bomb site early in December. Rev. Kiyoshi Tanimoto in New York says she will leave around November 14 or 15 en route to India and is to reach Hiroshima December 5.
