UNS Striking CIO Communications Workers plan hit and run protests to return to work tomorrow after a one day all out strike that disrupted telephone service in parts of the nation. About 33,000 workers joined picket lines at exchanges while 80,000 to 120,000 others were kept from work.

A 60 mile per hour gale driven by sudden easterly winds battered the Santa Ana region. Winds toppled trees, disrupted traffic, and caused widespread power outages as police urged motorists to avoid affected streets and warned the storm as one of the area’s most violent in memory.
