China Reds Reopen Heavy Attack on Yank Forces

Tokyo dispatch reports Chinese Communist forces renewed a heavy assault near the Chongchon River in northwest Korea. U S First Corps said the attack began at 4 a.m. and raged into noon as U S ground troops and 24th Division infantry defended bridgehead positions. American air power struck at dawn while Marines and allied forces faced renewed pressure 15 miles northeast of Sinanju and south of Youngbyon.

Harbor Tieup Ends As SUP unloads C-Trader

The harbor tieup threat over a jurisdictional labor dispute ended today as 150 policemen watched the scene while Sailors Union of the Pacific members finished unloading the lumber schooner C-Trader. Six members of the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union picketed the dock in protest against SUP participation, but the protest was ignored.

MacArthur Calls Chinese Involvement a Major War Lawlessness

General Douglas MacArthur denounced Chinese Communist intervention in Korea as one of the most offensive acts of international lawlessness and suggested the United Nations might authorize strikes against China. He noted the North Korean army has been destroyed but warned of a 5,000,000 strong Chinese force from Manchuria. He praised Lt. Gen. Walton H. Walker for reshaping defenses and argued UN forces may need to strike on Chinese soil to deter the invasion.
