Sailors vote to aid boy in need aboard schooner

A committee of about 1500 sailors aboard the Manchester unanimously voted the fund should go to Rickly. Capt. Frost said the crew had been informed of the boy's train and home port listed as Long Beach. See Manchester, Page.

Reds Protest TOKYO Demonstrators Demand End to Atrocities

In Tokyo on May 30, communists lodged a formal protest over reports of further deaths of North Korean prisoners on Koje Island and urged the United Nations to halt these killings at once.

President Truman vetoed the tidelands oil bill claiming it would grant a precious national heritage to a few favored states. He offered a compromise while Senate allies, led by Tom Connally, pledged to override the veto. The measure returns to the Senate for action.

Miracle Twins Survive Near-Miss Jet Crash at Airport

Capt. Frederick M. Diener and S/Sgt. Robert Engstram, both stationed at Long Beach Air Force Base, dodged a catastrophic disintegration of a faster-than-sound trainer near Municipal Airport. They walked away with minor injuries and were treated at the base dispensary. Diener suffered a three inch cut by the eye. Engstram had bruises and nervous pains.
