Hit and Run Victim Dies in Los Angeles Suburb

Police intensified the search for a hit and run driver after 84 year old Caroline Beckman died from injuries suffered when she and 76 year old Elizabeth Fox were struck at the intersection of Second Street and Cerritos Avenue Sunday night. Fox remains hospitalized with serious leg injuries. Two men were arrested for felonious hit and run but not linked to the case, as detectives seek the suspect car. Beckman’s death marks Long Beach’s 14th traffic fatality of the year, nine of them pedestrians.

Valcour collision kills sailors in fiery clash with collier

NORFOLK Va May 14 36 Navy men either dead or missing after the sea plane tender Valcour rammed by the collier Thomas Tracy off Cape Henry. Fire engulfed the Valcour as rescuers in gas masks recovered nine bodies and towed the burning ship to Norfolk. Sixteen sailors were hospitalized. some leave records burned.

Bamboo Spills Block Traffic Circle After Truck Capsize

Three tons of bamboo lay scattered across the southern portion of the Traffic Circle last night when the load toppled from a truck. Driver Mike Arhallo said he steered to avoid another car and grazed a curb, causing the rollover en route to a furniture plant.

Sacramento May 14 The signing of a bill extends from ten to twenty years and grants titles lands to the City of Los Angeles. Gov Earl Warren signed the measure, with Jay as a cited signer.
