Tokyo reports U S Navy Skyraider dive bombers hit North Korea’s Hwachon dam with aerial torpedoes for the first time in the Korean War. The blast released floodwaters to disrupt Chinese plans and lower Yan and Pukhan river levels, threatening crossing points and dam operations.
The Senate Crime Investigating Committee said there is a strong possibility that contributions to campaigns by Arthur H. Samish the California liquor lobbyist violated the Federal Corrupt Practices Act. The U S attorney general and the commissioner of internal revenue were asked to review Samish and California Brewers Institute tax deductions.
Long Beach will test its new air raid warning system Thursday. Fifteen warning signals atop fire stations will be sounded at 11 a.m. and 4 30 p.m. to check the alert network across the city.
