President Truman denounced Republicans for a white is black campaign based on phony propaganda. He predicted Democratic victory in 1952 and attacked the GOP as desperate after 20 years out of power. Truman spoke at the Jefferson Jackson dinner launching the 1952 campaign.
President Truman shockingly announced he will not seek re election or accept renomination. In a Jefferson Jackson Day speech he departed from his prepared text and stated he has served his country and will not run again. The dramatic decision ends months of suspense and signals the end of his bid for the White House.
Mrs Mary Hertzog 82 of 3733 California Ave died after a car backing from a driveway struck her on the sidewalk moments from her home. Benjamin A Sunde 57 of 3745 California owned the vehicle. no witnesses or clear response observed by police. She died at Seaside Hospital around 10:30 p.m.
