A vast storm system roared through the midsection causing tornadoes floods and blizzards across multiple states. Reports cite hundreds killed or injured and widespread destruction from Arkansas to Wisconsin with towns like Judsonia affected as warm southern air collided with cold western air.

Disaster toll rises to 204 in southern outbreak

A December storm system sweeping through Arkansas Alabama Mississippi Tennessee Missouri and Kentucky left at least 204 dead and up to 800 injured. President Truman ordered federal officials to survey relief options as tornadoes and floods devastated the region. The death toll by state later counted 60 in Tennessee 45 in Missouri 13 in Mississippi 20 in Arkansas and five in Alabama with warnings of more twisters expected in Georgia and South Carolina.

Long Beach fights for tidelands in two hearings

The Main Event Long Beach will seek to retain title to tidelands under the ocean from low tide to three miles. One boundary case will be heard in Washington and another in Los Angeles before a Supreme Court master. The Los Angeles session will take evidence on San Pedro Bay boundaries to decide which tidelands belong to Long Beach and which to the federal government.

Beach Weather Forecast Says Warm, Clear With Winds

The weatherman reports warm trend continuing with 72 degree highs in Long Beach. Small craft warnings may persist offshore until about 8 a.m. then seas calm while variable winds raise dust in some inland areas today and tomorrow.
