Reds Collapse on Front as Seoul Evacuated
American troops pushed to within one mile of the Chinese Hongchon River defense line and four miles from Seoul as Communist resistance collapsed on the central Korea front. Field dispatches said Seoul was abandoned behind the Hongchon line with replacements manned by strawmen. Sentries guarded the Han River approaches as U S forces probed east of the capital, while air observers noted kilometers of traffic heading north.
