Senate Bans U S Funds in Fallbrook Suit
The Senate added a provision to a Justice Dept. appropriation prohibiting use of funds to prosecute the government suit against Fallbrook Public Utility District, Santa Margarita Mutual Water Co., and water users along the Santa Margarita River. California Republicans Knowland and Nixon sponsor the measure, arguing it would have a moral effect on campaign pressure to modify or drop the case linked to Camp Pendleton. House had a similar but later eliminated section.
