Ford Shifts to Four Day Week at Local Plant
Ford Motor Co. here ordered a four day work week this week to conserve steel. About 1300 employees will take Friday off. Ford aims to prevent lay offs amid nationwide steel shortages, with plans to shut some division plants by late June and keep others running four days a week into July. Dearborn steel mills will remain in operation.

Marine Staff Sergeant Bound Over on Theft Charge
Marine staff sergeant Herbert L. Franks, 22, was bound over for Superior Court arraignment after a preliminary hearing before Municipal Judge Martin DeVries on a grand theft charge. Franks allegedly took a 1.5 ton Public Service Dept. truck from its parking place at Anaheim Street and Chestnut Avenue on June 11, eluding police for hours while listening to the chase on a two way radio.
