Rapid Red Roundup reports four Los Angeles Communist leaders seized in a crackdown. Henry Steinberg Rose Chernin Dorothy Henley Philly Marshall Connelly Mrs Oletn O Connor Yates CA state secretary arrested in San Francisco amid party action.
U S authorities crack down on the Communist Party arresting a dozen prominent Reds including an organizer, a former Berkeley mayoral candidate, and the party’s new manager William Schneiderman. Bonds set wide in Los Angeles New York and San Francisco. several had hearings within hours.
Nearly 200 men remained on duty in the Lake Arrowhead region mopping up after a forest fire destroyed 3000 acres of brush and timber land.
In a 10 hour clash near Yanggu and Inje in Korea, two hills north northwest of Yanggu were recaptured by Reds after a furious counterattack against United Nations forces. Allied units initially seized the hills but withdrew under heavy machinegun, mortar, and artillery fire. Other UN forces north of Inje faced moderate resistance from a Red battalion.

A hit and run driver struck 14 year old Harvey C. Brande of 4145 Elm Ave at Ninth Street and Pine Avenue, knocking him from his bicycle. Brande was treated at Seaside Hospital for cuts and bruises.
Allied and Communist negotiators in Tokyo held the 11th cease-fire meeting to draw a line for ending the Korean War after 397 days of fighting. The session lasted about one hour and 1½ minutes, with adjournment until tomorrow at 10 a.m. Long Beach time, as they proceed with the five-point program for the cease-fire conference.
The Allied delegation before the Haesong armistice conference outlined the UN position on a buffer zone as talks sought an end to the Korean War. Communist delegates went to recess after the UN view, while questions about a ceasefire date remained unresolved. President Truman expressed hope for a possible end, and Acheson warned of a major Communist assault if talks fail.

A 13 year old deaf boy Cary Robson read lips of frightened youths at New Mill pond and saved 10 year old Joseph De Coito from six feet of water. Cary pulled him from the bottom and revived him after two drivers failed. The Northampton School for the Deaf student acted quickly to rescue the drowning lad.
