House Advances 11 Month Extension Of Controls

Washington July 21 The House passed an eleven month extension of wage price rent and consumer credit controls after amending the measure in a series of roll call votes Econ stabilizer Eric Johnston criticized the bill saying it would raise consumer prices and hurt buyers He noted the removal of beefrellback restrictions and slaughtering quotas would cost consumers hundreds of millions of dollars in higher prices The House also dropped a four month wage salary price freeze and eliminated an administration opposed provision and kept a skeleton version of the administration plan Page 4

Truce talks recessed to July 25 at Communist request

U N truce camp near Kaesong reports a three day recess until July 25 after a showdown session between Allied and Communist delegates. Adm Joy said the Reds demanded withdrawal of Allied troops, risking the negotiation at Kaesong. An Allied bulletin notes the UN sees no need for a recess given consensus on agenda points and urges continued communications to facilitate a meeting.

Jet Lands With Brakes Locked at Tong Beach Airport

American test pilot Don Walter flew an F 6 Sabrejet to Tong Beach Municipal Airport yesterday. He landed with brakes locked at 130 miles per hour, creating smoke and screeching tires but escaped without injury to himself or the aircraft.
